Agnikarma (therapeutic heat application) in Osteoarthritis of Knee joint- A video demonstration

Abstract

The Agnikarma is one of the para-sugical procedures mentioned by Sushruta for the management of musculo-skeletol disorders. In geriatric age group osteoarthritis is burning problem which affects the quality of life of an individual. The treatment for OA knee joint includes analgesic, steroid injections and lastly surgery with their own limitations. The purpose of this video presentation of Agnikarma is to demonstrate this procedure to the Ayurveda practioners for the management of OA. During the Post Graduate research work author tried this procedure in 42 patients of OA knee joint. Among them 30 patients were recovered from pain and no pain was noted by those patients during follow up for 6 months. So this simple procedure can be repeated after 6 months. Patient can be free from pain and no need of abuse of analgesic so that old age patient can enjoy the quality of life.
